His death has left a profound void in the hearts of millions, as Somaliland bids farewell to a leader whose vision and determination shaped the nation.

Silanyo, who served as the fourth President of Somaliland from 2010 to 2017, was a statesman, reformer, and unifier. His leadership was marked by a commitment to stability, economic growth, and Somaliland's pursuit of international recognition. His tenure is remembered for fostering national unity, strengthening democratic institutions, and creating a foundation for progress.

Born in 1936 in Odweyne, Ahmed Silanyo's journey began as a student of economics at the University of Manchester. His dedication to education and governance propelled him to leadership roles, including serving as Somaliland’s Finance Minister during the Somali Democratic Republic era. His work with the Somali National Movement played a pivotal role in Somaliland’s quest for peace and self-determination after declaring independence in 1991.
